To all our readers, let me bid you a Céad Míle Fáilte to the O’Connell Secondary School website. The 2017-18 school year marks the 190th anniversary of the school’s foundation in 1828. To fully experience the atmosphere of this busy school in the heart of Dublin’s North Inner City beside Croke Park, we hope that as you browse our website you will, at least, get a flavour of who we are and what we do. It is impossible to capture all that happens in O’Connell Secondary School on this site. However, we think our site gives a glimpse of the wealth of experiences on offer to the students in the school.

We hope that you will also gain a little insight into the philosophy underpinning our endeavours. It is a philosophy rooted in the values of the Gospel and inspired by the wisdom of Blessed Edmund Rice, our Founder and first Principal. As a member of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust, we seek to promote full personal and social development in a caring Christian community of learning and teaching. We endeavour to support students in becoming self-confident, inquiring, independent, and tolerant individuals who respect the differences of others. Each member of our staff is dedicated to the development, motivation and personal welfare of each student. Our aim is to encourage our students to grow and mature into young people who will achieve their full potential and emerge into the world to live meaningful and purposeful lives.

In our recent WSE-MLL School Inspection, O’Connell Secondary School is defined as “a high quality learning environment” where “school management and staff have a very good capacity for, and commitment to, school improvement and school self-evaluation”.

We hope you enjoy this website. Many teachers, students and parents helped to develop and maintain it. Thank you for taking the time to explore. Happy browsing and if you need further information on any aspect of the school please feel free to contact us. We welcome constructive feedback, as we share the common goal of continuous improvement.
