Under 15 Soccer Minor Cup – Portmarnock C.S.

UNDER 15 Minor Cup

24th November 2014

O’Connell School | 3 : 2 | Portmarnock C.S.

A superb performance from the OCS lads who notched up a most impressive victory away to a very solid team from Portmarnock. In this, the second round of the Minor Cup, conditions were very heavy underfoot and the pitch cut up quite badly early on. Kyle Reid kept O’Connells in the game in the first half with a series of super saves and it was a Conor Darcy header that allowed OCS to grab the lead in the twentieth minute. Portmarnock equalised on the stroke of half time and the game was evenly poised at the break. A wonderful strike from man-of-the-match Troy Parrott put OCS in the lead again just after the break. At this stage Kyle Reid really showed his class and ability in goal as he made a series of brilliant stops which meant that the O’Connell’s lead remained intact. Indeed the Portmarnock pressure was quite intense and they eventually equalised following a goal-mouth scramble with ten minutes to go. However, Troy Parrott wasn’t finished and he slotted home a late penalty following a foul on Conor Darcy in the box. Victory for OCS! The four warriors at the back, Cian Macken, Ade Benjamin, Richard Nugent and Ross Burnett were excellent. Across the middle, Conor Darcy, Jordan Wynne, Leon Murphy and Precious Adenubi were solid. Up front Troy Parrott and Gareth Dowling were always alert for the quick break. Kevin Cordosa and Gerard Loftus came on in the second half and both played very well. Jake Taaffe and Cameron O’Brien were unused substitutes today.
