O’Connells 9-8
Grange College 5-5

O’Connells under 16 Gaelic footballers got their campaign off to a winning start with an emphatic win over Grange Community College on a grey afternoon in Clontarf.

O’Connells got off to a flyer with a point from Mark Corcoran followed by a goal from second year, Ciaran Burnett. Ciaran was to terrorise the Grange defence all afternoon finishing with a personal tally of 3 goals. Fellow second year Cameron Donegan added a goal and Dean Murphy a point before the half time whistle giving our lads a cushion at half time of 4-3 to 3-4.

O’Connells didn’t let up in the second half with Mark Corcoran running at the Grange defence every time he got the ball. When Anthony White came on to grab a goal with his first touch, the O’Connells boys took control. Peter Carr and Dean Murphy controlled the midfield battle with Craig Fagan and Adam Kavanagh outstanding in defence. Dylan Kelly, Jordan McCann and James Doran made some vital blocks late on to deny Grange any chance of getting back into the game and first year Gerard Loftus came on to great effect scoring a superb point.

O’Connells finished strongly with Gary McNally pulling off some good saves in goals and captain fantastic Dean Murphy and Mark Corcoran kicked great points on the run to polish off a fine team performance.

Well done boys and congrats to manager extraordinaire Miss Shanahan and water boy Mr Devine.
