UNDER 17 Soccer League 2014-15
15th October 2014
O’Connell School | 2 : 2 | Castleknock College
At home for our first group game in the league, the boys from OCS began their group stage with this 2-2 draw against a strong outfit from Castleknock College. An early headed goal from the flourishing Conor Darcy put OCS into a commanding and deserved 1-0 lead heading towards half time. However Castleknock equalised on the stroke of the 40th minute when a quick break saw their striker finish neatly on a one-to-one with our outstanding ‘keeper Kieran Comerford. The four lads at the back, Craig Fagan, Cameron Donegan, Dylan Kelly and Peter Carr were solid. Across the middle, Dean Murphy, Adam Kavanagh, Jordan McCann and man-of-the–match Mark Corcoran were excellent. Up front, Nasser Mossey and Tyler Cumberton (making his debut) were sharp and always alert for the quick break. Indeed it was a snap shot from the work-horse Tyler Cumberton that restored the advantage for OCS in the second half. The OCS defence then came under a huge amount of pressure in the second half and but for the heroics of Kieran ‘The Cat’ Comerford in goal, OCS would surely have been beaten. The relentless pressure from Castleknock paid off late in the second half when they equalised following a break on the left. 2-2 was the final score and the lads from OCS were lucky in the end to scrape a draw. Substitutes Michael Storey, Leroy Quinn and Dylan Gifford were all used today.
