UNDER 17 Soccer League 2014-15
17th November 2014
O’Connell School | 2 : 11 | New Cross College Finglas
Away for our second group game in the league, the boys from OCS were short a few of their regular players in this clash at Charlestown. The score line certainly reflects the gulf in class on this occasion as OCS had put in a good performance in the Cup against this solid team from Finglas. However there was only ever going to be one winner in this game and New Cross quickly raced into a six goal lead. Tyler Cumberton scored a brace for OCS in the second half. His first effort was a spectacular lob from the halfway line, very similar to a famous goal that David Beckham once scored for Manchester United against Wimbledon in 1996. Goalkeeper Dylan Kelly has to be commended for his performance in goal as he was very busy throughout and made a number of spectacular saves. At the back Peter Carr, Craig Fagan, Patrick McGuinness and Leroy Quinn tried hard at all times but were unable to halt the tidal waves of attacks from a very sharp team from New Cross College. Across the middle Adam Kavanagh, Jordan Wynne, Mark Corcoran and Dean Murphy were busy. Up front, Nasser Mossy and Tyler Cumberton kept running at the Finglas defence and did cause some problems especially in the second half. Substitues Gary Gannon and Indrajit Chhantyal were impressive when introduced in the second half.
