O’Connell Secondary School Annual Student Awards
Following deliberations between the class teachers, form-teachers, other staff members and year-head, students from each 1st Year, 2nd Year, 3rd Year and 5th Year class will be nominated for the following annual awards:
- Overall Student of the Year
- Most Improved Student of the Year
- Literacy Award
- Numeracy Award
- Spirit of Donal Walsh Award (Awarded to the student in each 1st Year Class who made a positive contribution to school/class life during the year)
- Spirit of Blessed Edmund Rice Award (Awarded to the student in each 2nd Year, 3rd Year and 5th Year Class who made a positive contribution to school/class life during the year)
- December Attendance Award to the student(s) who has had full attendance up to Christmas each year
- December Attendance Award to the student(s) who has missed 2 or fewer days up to Christmas each year
- May Attendance Award to the student(s) who has had full attendance between Christmas and the end of May each year
- May Attendance Award to the student(s) who has missed 2 or fewer days between Christmas and the end of May each year
Following deliberations between the class teachers, form-teachers, other staff members and year-head, students from 6th Year will be nominated for the following annual awards which are presented at the 6th Year Graduation Ceremony in May:
- Individual Class Student of the Year Awards
- Individual Awards for Sporting Excellence in Gaelic Games, Soccer and Basketball
- Overall Sports Personality of the Year Award
- Awards for Contributing to the Promotion of Different Activities within the School (e.g. Music, Drama)
- Spirit of Blessed Edmund Rice Awards
- Cathal Dunlop Memorial Award
- Past Pupils’ Union Student of the Year Award
