O’Connell School | 4 : 0 | St. Killian’s Clonskeagh

It has been a long time coming, 12 years in fact, but it has come to pass that O’Connell School are once again Kings of Leinster in juvenile soccer. Following their impressive 4-3 defeat of the hot favourites Trinity Comprehensive in the semi-final, OCS were crowned LEINSTER CHAMPIONS after a 4-0 victory against a determined team from Clonskeagh. Last year, OCS were narrowly defeated in the final of this competition and this year the squad were keen to go one step further and claim the prize.

On a beautiful day on a fantastic surface in Richmond Road, the stage was set for the boys from O’Connell School who started brightly and made the early running in the first half. A super strike from the impressive OCS captain Troy PARROTT gave O’Connell’s the lead in the 17th minute. This goal was a signal for the team from Clonskeagh to attack and this is exactly what they did for the next 20 minutes. However the OCS resolve and determination came to the fore and Jordan BOYLAN, David OPREA, Sebastian CORCAN and Jamie MURPHY were faultless at the back and were well marshalled by their keeper Denis ROBU.  The lively Leon WHEELOCK at centre-forward crashed a tremendous effort against the bar just before half-time. One – nil to OCS at the break.

In the second half OCS began to exert a lot more pressure and further strikes from Troy PARROTT (2) and Leon WHEELOCK secured the cup for OCS. The OCS midfield engine was controlled by Troy PARROTT, Lloyd LAWLESS, Scott SHANNON and Evan CROSBIE. Up front, Eduard IACOB was a constant thorn in the side of the Clonskeagh defence. In the second half, OCS brought on Antoni SNIEZEK, Corey CUMMINS and Scott COUGHLAN and all three performed excellently. At the final whistle, OCS were 4-0 up and hat-trick scorer Troy PARROTT accepted the cup on behalf of his team. Thanks to all our supporters on the day and well done and thanks especially to the team’s manager MR O’CONNELL for all his hard work, commitment and dedication to the squad.

Championes Championes Ole Ole Ole!!!!

WELL DONE TO ONE AND ALL!
