O’Connell School | 3 : 0 | Community College Dunmanway Cork

Following on from their highly impressive victory in Leinster, Mr Colm O’Connell’s First Year soccer team have now reached the All-Ireland Final, yes folks, THE ALL-IRELAND FINAL. It’s the first time since 1977 that OCS will have contested such a final and heartfelt congratulations to the manager and all the squad concerned on this fantastic achievement.

On a beautiful day on a fantastic surface in Clonmel Town, the stage was set for the boys from O’Connell School who started brightly and made the early running in the first half. A super strike from the impressive OCS work-horse Lloyd Lawless gave O’Connell’s the lead in the 19th minute. This goal was a signal for the boys from Dublin to attack further and this is exactly what they did for the next 11 minutes. Just rewards were delivered when the ever-alert Evan Crosbie struck for goal number two when he latched onto a rebound from the Cork ‘keeper to pounce and strike home just before half-time.

In the second half, the team from Cork went for broke and put OCS under fierce pressure from the kick-off. However our ‘keeper Denis ROBU was quite outstanding and his assurance under the high ball was vital in the second half. Again the famous OCS resolve and determination came to the fore and Jordan ‘BONES’ BOYLAN, David OPREA, Sebastian CORCAN and Jamie MURPHY were SUPERB at the back.  The lively Trot PARROTT at centre-midfield crashed a tremendous effort against the bar in the second-half. The Cork team continued to push forward in search of a goal and they were caught on the break when Troy PARROTT broke through their defence and buried the ball in the net. OCS were now in the driving seat and the Cork team were truly beaten.

The OCS midfield engine was controlled by Troy PARROTT, Lloyd LAWLESS, the excellent Scott SHANNON and Evan CROSBIE. Up front, Eduard IACOB and Leon WHEELOCK were a constant threat. In the second half, OCS brought on Antoni SNIEZEK, Corey CUMMINS and Scott COUGHLAN and all three performed excellently. At the final whistle, OCS were 3-0 up and ON THEIR WAY TO AN ALL-IRELAND FINAL. Well done and thanks especially to the team’s manager MR O’CONNELL for all his hard work, commitment and dedication to the squad.
