Under 15 Soccer Cup

Round Two

December 6th 2013

O’Connell School 3
St. Paul’s Raheny 7

Away to St Paul’s was always going to a tricky tie for the lads from OCS. 4 – 0 down after 10 minutes, our lads were shell-shocked. St Paul’s scored from their first four attacks. What a disaster! However some hope was restored before half time when Ciaran Burnett netted a penalty for OCS. 6 – 1 down at a half-time! We needed a miracle and nearly got one. In the second half the OCS team put in a terrific performance and ran out comfortable 2 -1 winners, but lost 7 – 3 overall in the end. Evan Pierce, our captain, scored a goal and a fine effort from the ever-busy Gerard Loftus kept the game alive as a contest to the end.
The attitude was right and the boys from OCS did as they were asked but our opponents were superior in many areas of the pitch. Indeed their goal-keeper made 6 top class saves in the second half so it was a case of what might have been…… Best of luck to our conquerors in the next round.
Roll on the next round of the league for this OCS team of warriors who never gave up and played as a team throughout. Down but not out!
WELL DONE TO ONE AND ALL!
