Honouring a Legacy: Glasnevin Visit Marks Daniel O’Connell Commemoration

Principal Liam Newell recently led a group of representatives from the school community to Glasnevin Cemetery to take part in the annual Daniel O’Connell Commemoration. This meaningful visit served as a tribute to one of Ireland’s most influential political leaders, known for his pivotal role in the advancement of civil rights and Catholic emancipation in the 19th century.

Joining Mr. Newell on this important occasion were students Seán Keyes, James Osagie, and Jack McCann, whose participation reflected the ongoing engagement of the school’s younger generation with Irish history and civic life. Also in attendance was Dr. Tony Connellan, President of the Past Pupils' Union, whose continued support helps to maintain a strong connection between past and present members of the school community.

The event was beautifully documented by past pupil and photographer Paul Reardon, who captured a striking group photo during the visit, symbolising the enduring legacy of education, leadership, and historical awareness.

The visit not only honoured Daniel O’Connell’s lasting contributions to Irish society, but also reinforced the school's commitment to fostering a deep appreciation for national heritage among its students.
