What is DEIS? Launched in 2005 by the Department of Education and Skills, DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) is the most recent national programme aimed at addressing the educational needs of children and young people from disadvantaged communities. We aim to narrow that educational disadvantage by strategically setting goals and targets to improve the DEIS areas of Literacy, Numeracy, Attendance, Wellbeing and Partnership. Our students work in our community to help others in need. As part of our DEIS strategy we put emphasis on community building. We raise funds for charities, we work in the areas and help with the homeless and those in need. Our students participate in social justice projects, actively reaching out to the community which help them build resilience and empathy towards others.
Our approach to teaching and learning is aimed to engage the students and stimulate their curiosity. Many of our teachers use project work, work experience, active learning strategies and group participation to improve the student's experience in our school.
