The Curriculum at Senior Cycle level aims at providing an educational environment conducive to the on-going realisation of the full human development of each student during his final years in O’Connell Secondary School.

- Development of moral and spiritual growth through Religious Education.
- Development of emotional and social growth through Social, Personal and Health Education.
- Development of physical growth through Physical Education.
- Development of intellectual growth through academic subjects.
Content
At Senior Cycle level the following subjects are compulsory for all students. RE, PE, Irish, English and Mathematics, Business and S.P.H.E. (However, in certain circumstances an exemption from Irish may be obtained from the Department of Education and Science).
Four further subjects are studied from the following list:
- Accounting
- Economics
- Biology
- Physics
- Chemistry
- German/French
- Art
- Woodwork
- Geography
The syllabus for all subjects is prescribed by the Department of Education and Science.
Methods of Assessment
- Regular assessment in each subject throughout the year.
- Christmas and Summer Examinations followed by Reports.
- Leaving Certificate Examination at the end of Sixth Year (Mocks in February).
